May Half Term family Sailing Lesson 2024

Date: 27th, 28th & 30th, 31st of May (32hrs of learning to sail)

Time: 930am-5:30pm

Price : £340 (£170 deposit) Per Person 

Location: Piddinghoe Lake, Cedar Lane BN9 9AF.

 

Want a family day out where you can learn and have fun together? Well we have created this package to do exactly that. You will learn the basics of rigging, sailing, turning, launching and coming ashore. You can enjoy some sailing games together and maybe even get a little competitive with some fun family races too. 

This package is designed to be a fun-filled activity to do together as a family, whilst sticking to standard RYA teaching methods and completing RYA stages 1 and 2 for the kids, and RYA level 1 and 2 for the adults. We are also happy to deliver more advanced sailing for your family (Some parts will need to be taught separately).

Duration : Run over 4 days. (Monday Tuesday, Thursday and Friday)

Min age is 8 yrs. for Youth stage 1 and 2

The days will be divided into morning and afternoon activities - what we do will depend a little on the weather each day. 

Previous experience : No experience required, these courses are tailored to your families aims.

Understanding the Youth RYA Stage 1 Sailing Course:

The RYA Stage 1 sailing course serves as an introduction to the world of sailing. It is suitable for beginners with little to no prior experience. During this course, participants will learn the basics of boat handling, including rigging, launching, and recovery. They will also gain an understanding of essential sailing terminology, wind awareness, and basic sailing techniques. By the end of the course, participants will be able to sail a dinghy in light winds under supervision.

RYA Stage 1 course content summary:

  • Launching and recovery
  • Parts of the boat
  • Basic sailing
  • Improve basic sailing skills
  • Ropework
  • Collision avoidance and turning.


    Youth RYA Stage 2 Sailing Course:

    The stage 2 course is the next step, setting out the foundations of sailing for you, sailing ability along with theoretical knowledge is assumed to be up to level 1 standard. The course consists of rigging a dinghy with minimal help, understanding how to launch a boat in different wind directions, and learning standard sailing manoeuvres. The course also covers essential safety knowledge to be used when sailing. Once level 2 has been achieved the sailor will be able to sail and make decisions on and off the water in good conditions. Next stage level 3 and/or race training.

    • Basic sailing, practicing steering in all directions
    • Learning parts of the boat
    • Rigging boats.
    • Hoisting sails, setting sails and trimming
    •  Introducing all points of Sail
    • Tacking and Gybing
    • Sailing around a course
    • Ropework
    • Collision avoidance and turning

    Understanding Adult RYA level 1 Sailing Course:

    The RYA Level 1 sailing course serves as an introduction to the world of sailing. It is suitable for beginners with little to no prior experience.     What we provide:

    • Wetsuits,
    • Buoyancy aids.

    What you need:

    • Swimsuit or loose (non-restrictive) shirt and shorts,
    • Old shoes or wet shoes,
    • Lunch,
    • Water vessel,
    • Shower kit.

    All kids must be able to swim.
